Yoga Classes in Huntingdon: A Beginner’s Guide to Getting Started
If you’ve been thinking about trying yoga but haven’t quite made it to your first class, you’re certainly not alone. Starting something new can feel a little daunting, especially if you’re not sure what to expect.
At Hakan & Friends Yoga Studio in Huntingdon, we welcome people of all experience levels, including complete beginners. You don’t need to be flexible, experienced or particularly fit to start yoga. You need to come along and be willing to give it a try.
You Don’t Need to Be Flexible to Start Yoga
One thing I often hear from people is, "I'm not flexible enough to do yoga.”
But flexibility is not a requirement for starting yoga. In fact, improving mobility and flexibility can be part of the reason for practising in the first place.
Everyone comes to yoga with a different body and different abilities. A good yoga practice isn't about trying to look like the person next to you. It is about learning to work with your own body, gradually building strength, mobility, balance and awareness.
What Happens in a Yoga Class?
Classes can vary by style and teacher, but you can generally expect a combination of physical postures, breathing, concentration, and relaxation.
Some classes may be slower and more gentle, while others can be more physically challenging.
At our yoga studio in Huntingdon, we offer different classes so students can explore their practice and find something that suits them.
You don't need to know the names of the yoga poses before attending. Your teacher will guide you through the class.
What Should I Bring?
You don't need lots of equipment to start.
We have yoga mats and props available at the studio, although you're very welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Most importantly, come with an open mind, and don't worry about doing everything in your first class.
Yoga is a practice that develops over time.
Yoga Is More Than Exercise
Many people initially come to yoga because they want to become stronger or more flexible. These are certainly benefits of regular physical practice, but yoga can offer much more.
For some people, yoga class becomes a chance to slow down after a busy day. For others, it is a chance to concentrate, breathe and spend some time away from everyday distractions.
Over time, a regular practice can become an important part of your week.
Practising Yoga in Huntingdon
Having a local yoga studio makes it easier to build a regular practice without travelling far.
Hakan & Friends Yoga Studio is based at 119 High Street in Huntingdon, making it convenient for people living and working in Huntingdon and the surrounding area.
But for me, a yoga studio should be more than simply a room where people exercise.
I want our studio to be a friendly place where people can practise together, get to know their teachers and fellow students, and feel part of a local yoga community.
Whether you are completely new to yoga or have been practising for years, you are welcome.
Thinking About Trying Your First Class?
Don't worry about being the least experienced person in the room. Every experienced yoga student once walked into their first class without knowing what to expect.
Start where you are.
Come along, practise at your own pace and give yourself time to discover what yoga can bring to your life.
We look forward to welcoming you to Hakan & Friends Yoga Studio in Huntingdon.
